Introduction

Plunge into myths, stories and tales of fantasy!

This is the first and probably the last post in which I will  be addressing you directly. I've always loved myths and fantasies, so I decided to make a blog where I will be sharing various myths, folktales and even stories and magic made by me. I am going to be writing small stories that just popped up in my mind and will also be detailing various spells, magic items and weapons, most of which are made by me. It has been a hobby of mine for ages, and now i want to share them to the world. I can't put only this tiny paragraph as an introduction, so here is a little something about mythology:

Myths are anything that are not believed to be true or are made up. However, they are also stories that show the history behind many events, people and natural phenomenon. Mythologies are collections of these myths, usually belonging to one certain religion, belief or culture. The events of the myths might seem like wild fantasies or old tales, but they are important. Each myth shows how people used to think, what they believed in. And I am not talking about just the gods. Each myth showcases a certain set of values or qualities that that culture deemed important.

Folklore, however, is different from mythology in one aspect. Both are similar but not the same. Lore means traditional knowledge about a certain subject. Folklore is the lore of a certain folk, that is, beliefs, customs and stories of a community passed down from generation to generation, usually through word of mouth or through any other form, such as music or dance. Mythology is a part of the folklore of a community. Myths are written and preserved, folktales are told and performed.

Every culture has its own mythology, but these are the ones which gained prominence in today’s world (which is almost all the mythologies of prevalent communities):

Hindu, Islam, Christian, Greek, Roman, Welsh, Irish, Egyptian, Norse, Chinese, Japanese and many more. I will be leaving it here because we’ll be here all day if I’m listing all the cultures. Still didn’t pique your interest? Here are a few facts about the various myths that I’m guessing you didn’t know:

Greek mythology is where most mythical creatures come from, like pegasi, griffins, sphinxes and even werewolves!

MARVEL fans rejoice! Find out the true origins of your favourite characters such as Thor, Loki, Odin, Hela and Surt, all who were inspired by Norse mythology

Dragon Ball fans must know that Goku was inspired by Sun Wukong from the Chinese epic, “The Journey to the West”

Many names from the Naruto series were taken from Japanese Mythology!

My first post is going to be one where I will share a small legend made by yours truly.

  1. Are Sun Wukong and Hanuman similar in their abilities and powers?

    1. I guess. You could say that the feats carried out by wukong make him seem stronger but hanuman is stronger as he is a reincarnation of shiva and could withstand the brahmastra.
